Medsker holds kickoff fundraiser and presents plans for Recorder’s office

Mike Medsker, the Republican candidate for Cass County Recorder of Deeds, kicked off his campaign with a fundraiser on Saturday, April 17. The event was held at Diamond Residential, Medsker’s mortgage office in Raymore. Medsker, who currently serves on the Raymore City Council, utilized the event as an opportunity to present his future plans for the Recorder’s office. Guest speakers included State Representative Chris Molendorp and Raymore Councilmember Jeff Cox.

“As someone who has worked in the real estate and mortgage industry for over 10 years, I have ideas for this office that will make it more business friendly and provide better services to our citizens than it has in the past,” Medsker said. “I think we can effectively use technology to bring this office into the 21st century, while at the same time keeping that small town feel and quality customer service that the people of Cass County have come to expect from county government.”

In Medsker’s view, one primary way that the office can become more business and citizen friendly is to provide public records online at no cost, as other area counties do. “While other counties such as Clay and Jackson are providing these documents at no cost online in a searchable, user friendly format, businesses and citizens in Cass County are required to pay $250 per month or $.20 per minute to access public information,” Medsker explained. “When Cass County is charging fees for something that is free up in Jackson County, you know there’s a problem.”

Medsker also stated that he will bring a fiscally conservative mindset into the office, and look for ways to cut operating costs as other county offices have done. “At a time when many taxpayers have to tighten their belts and watch their money, I believe that government should be expected to do the same,” said Medsker. “Just as other offices in Cass County have been transitioning into more professional, efficient service providers over the last several years, I plan to help county government continue in this direction by doing the same in the Recorder’s office.”

Medsker is unopposed in the August Republican primary, and will face a Democrat incumbent in the November 2, 2010 general election. The hosts of the event were State Senator David Pearce, State Representative Chris Molendorp, County Commissioners Brian Baker and Bill Cook, County Assessor Bob Huston, County Treasurer Steve Cheslik, and County Administrator Melody Folsom
